We use a government-approved rapid antigen test, specifically the Roche SARS-CoV-2 Rapid Antigen Test. This antigen rapid test measures whether certain viral proteins are present. In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) approved this test to be made available to medical professionals under number EUL-0503-027-00. In the Netherlands, you need to be BIG-registered to perform this test.
SARS-CoV-2 is used to refer to it the virus of what is popularly known as “the coronavirus. The abbreviation stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-CoronaVirus. This virus, which is spread among humans, can cause COVID-19 disease.
A virus is constantly changing. This means that a piece of the genetic code is modified for survival. Each time this happens, a new variant is created. Meanwhile, with SARS-CoV-2, we can already speak of an alpha, beta, delta and two gamma variants (P1 and P2) of the virus.
COVID symptoms vary from person to person and are often very diverse. The most common symptoms are colds, coughing, sore throat, less smell and/or taste, fever and rapid or difficult breathing.
SARS-CoV-2 spreads between people via tiny droplets found in exhaled air. These droplets can be released while someone is talking, yelling, coughing, sneezing, and so on.

It is best to use a COVID antigen rapid test when you experience symptoms suggestive of coronavirus. Also, if you have been around people who tested positive, you would be wise to take an antigen rapid test.

The antigen rapid test has a minimum sensitivity of 92.9% and a specificity of 99.4% on the presence of COVID-19 virus. The reliability of the test runs from the first to the seventh day of illness and, if positive, indicates active infection. You are then contagious and can transmit the virus to other people.
If you experience symptoms or have come in contact with an infected person, it is best to test yourself. In addition, it is also smart to test yourself when you come in contact with large groups of people (such as when you go to an event or leave on a trip), to prevent the spread of the virus. Even when returning from such outings, we recommend that you take a COVID self-test.

You perform the rapid antigen test yourself. After you receive the Easly test kit, make an appointment for the test online. You can do this by scanning QR code on the box or via testing.easly.co.uk. Keep the booking code found in your confirmation email handy once you log in for your appointment. Also keep an original and valid ID (passport, driver’s license or ID card) handy for the verification process. Then, under the online guidance of one of our staff members, you perform the self-test. You get the result after only 15-20 minutes after sending the photo by mail.
For the antigen self-test, immediately after collection, the test is processed. Within 15-20 minutes of sending the photo, you will receive an email with the results. Much faster than a normal PCR test, where you have to allow for 24-72 hours.

The test gives a reliable result especially from the first to the seventh day of illness and, if positive, indicates an active infection. A positive result means you are contagious and can transmit the virus to other people.
Please note that the test result is a snapshot in time. So it is possible that you may still be infected at a later time. Or at the time of testing, no detectable virus particles were present. These may be present at a later stage and therefore give a different result. We advise everyone to keep a close eye on their own health.
