eGFR Meaning
eGFR stands for estimated glomerular filtration rate. It is an estimate of the amount of blood that the kidneys can filter per minute. Well-functioning kidneys can filter a lot of blood (90 ml or more per minute). An eGFR lower than 15 ml/min indicates end-stage renal failure. This often requires dialysis. The eGFR is highly dependent on gender and age.
Normal eGFR values for men:
Here are the normal eGFR values per age group for both men and women:
- Age 20-29 years: 80.85 – 200 ml/min/1.73m²
- Age 30-39: 73.5 – 200 ml/min/1.73m²
- Age 40-49: 66.15 – 200 ml/min/1.73m²
