The comprehensive Blood Test Kit encompasses lipid profile analysis, specifically evaluating high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels and their respective ratios. This aids in discerning potential cardiovascular risks. Additionally, hs-CRP, a sensitive marker for systemic inflammation, is assessed. As scientific literature corroborates, elevated hs-CRP levels indicate subclinical inflammation linked to atherosclerotic progression and heightened cardiovascular risk.
The assay also quantifies HbA1c, a glycosylated form of hemoglobin. HbA1c levels reflect average blood glucose concentrations over approximately 8-12 weeks. Elevated HbA1c values can signify impaired glycemic control, potentially indicative of prediabetes or diabetes mellitus.
The liver, a pivotal organ for metabolic and detoxification processes, undergoes thorough evaluation in this test. Hepatic enzymes are assayed, including ALT, AST, bilirubin, Gamma-GT, alkaline phosphatase, and albumin. Collectively, these parameters provide a comprehensive overview of hepatic health and functionality.
Renal function is assessed primarily through creatinine levels, a byproduct of muscle metabolism, which is subsequently filtered by the kidneys. The eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) is computed based on creatinine values and age, offering insights into renal filtration efficiency.
The thyroid gland, a critical endocrine organ, modulates myriad physiological processes, including metabolism, thermoregulation, and cardiovascular dynamics. To evaluate its function, the test measures TSH, a pituitary hormone that regulates thyroid hormone synthesis, and the active thyroid hormone, fT4.
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is essential for erythropoiesis and cardiovascular health. Obtained primarily from dietary sources, a deficiency in B12 often manifests insidiously, especially in individuals adhering to vegetarian or vegan diets.
Vitamin D, technically a prohormone, facilitates calcium absorption and is integral for musculoskeletal health. Endogenously synthesized upon sun exposure, a deficiency in vitamin D can manifest with symptoms like muscle cramps, fatigue, and skeletal fragility.
Should you present with non-specific clinical manifestations, such as persistent fatigue, a hematological analysis may be instrumental in elucidating the underlying issue. In instances of acute or severe symptoms that impede daily activities, it is imperative to promptly consult with a primary care physician.
Easly’s Comprehensive Blood Test offers a meticulous evaluation of your organ health, hematological status, and potential cardiovascular risks. Notably, this assessment can be procured without a direct referral from a primary care provider. You can run the private full blood count test at home and submit your blood sample in time. Subsequently, the results, accompanied by expert medical interpretation, are made accessible online. Proactive and periodic health screenings facilitate early detection, enabling individuals to preemptively address potential health concerns.
The hematocrit test measures the volume proportion of blood taken up by red blood cells (erythrocytes). For example, if the hematocrit value is 40%, then 100 milliliters (ml) of blood consists of 40 milliliters of red blood cells.
Read moreHb stands for hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein and is a component of red blood cells (erythrocytes). Hemoglobin contains four iron molecules. These iron molecules are capable of binding one oxygen molecule each.
Read moreLeukocytes are white blood cells. White blood cells are part of the immune system.
Read moreMCH stands for mean corpuscular hemoglobin. The MCH test determines the amount of hemoglobin in red blood cells and thus provides information about red blood cells and the distribution of oxygen in the body.
Read moreMCHC stands for mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. The MCHC blood test determines the concentration of hemoglobin (oxygen-transporting protein) in red blood cells and, like MCH, provides information about red blood cells and the distribution of oxygen in the body.
Read moreMCV stands for mean corpuscular volume and says something about the average size of the red blood cell. Under certain conditions, the size of the red blood cell changes.
Read moreErythrocytes use haemoglobin to transport oxygen through the blood. Red blood cells are responsible for transporting oxygen to all body tissues using the protein haemoglobin.
Read moreALAT is a substance made by the liver. ALAT stands for alanine aminotransferase and is a biomarker belonging to the group of liver enzymes. Together with ASAT, ALAT forms another separate group called the serum transaminases. When liver cells are damaged, ALAT enters the blood.
Read moreALP stands for alkalysch phosphatase and is a biomarker belonging to the group of liver enzymes. ALP is made in the liver, but also in other tissues, such as bones, small intestine and placenta. This means that an abnormal value therefore does not always only say something about the liver. The value of ALP should therefore always be interpreted together with the other liver enzymes.
Read morefT4 stands for free thyroxine 4. Thyroxine 4 is the inactive variant of thyroid hormone. In technical jargon, this is called a precursor. With fT4, the part of Thyroxine 4 that is free (unbound) in the blood is measured. This is because most of thyroid hormone is bound to various proteins. Thyroxine 4 is converted by the body, particularly in the liver, into T3, Trijodothyronine. T3 is the biologically active variant of thyroid hormone.
Read moreTotal cholesterol is a substance in the category “fats”. It is necessary for the construction of our body cells; the production of bile; the production of hormones and vitamin D. Total cholesterol is a measure for all forms of cholesterol and triglycerides together. If total cholesterol is higher than 5, there is an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Read moreLDL cholesterol stands for Low Density Liporotein. Like HDL, it is a lipoprotein composed of cholesterol particles and proteins. LDL is also called the “bad cholesterol” because it can precipitate in blood vessels if present in excess. This is where it causes arteriosclerosis, or atherosclerosis. The higher the LDL, the higher the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Read moreA measure of the amount of sugar (glucose) in the urine, as an alternative to HbA1c. Normally, glucose should not be present in the urine. If glucose is found in the urine, it is a sign that blood glucose levels are too high.
Read moreeGFR stands for estimated glomerular filtration rate. It is an estimate of the amount of blood that the kidneys can filter per minute. Well-functioning kidneys can filter a lot of blood (90 ml or more per minute). An eGFR lower than 15 ml/min indicates end-stage renal failure. This often requires dialysis. The eGFR is highly dependent on gender and age.
Read moreLike ferritin, transferrin is a protein that can bind iron. Just as ferritin binds iron when it is stored in the liver, transferrin binds iron when it is transported through the blood.
Read moreIron is an important building block. Among other things, iron is needed for the production of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that can bind oxygen. Iron is therefore not the same as hemoglobin, but the two are closely related.
Read moreTransferrin saturation is calculated from the iron value and the transferrin value. It is a measure of the percentage of transferrin that is saturated with iron. Low transferrin saturation may indicate iron deficiency.
Read moreFerritin is a protein that can bind iron. The body has a supply of iron that is stored in the liver, bound to ferritin. In the event of iron deficiency, the iron bound to ferritin in the liver will be tapped. This will also cause the ferritin concentration to drop. A low ferritin level in combination with low iron therefore indicates iron deficiency.
Read moreUpon procuring Easly’s Full Blood Count (FBC) Test package, you have the convenience of scheduling a blood draw at any of PMO’s designated phlebotomy centers. Given PMO’s extensive network across the Netherlands, rest assured there’s a location within close proximity. During your appointment, a trained phlebotomist will select a venipuncture site, typically the antecubital fossa (inside of the elbow).
