The bacteria typically infect the urethra, the cervix, or the rectum.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">The deceptive nature of chlamydia lies in the fact that the majority of infected individuals (up to 70% of women and 50% of men) experience few to no symptoms. As a result, the bacteria can be passed on unknowingly. If left untreated, chlamydia can lead to serious complications, such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility in women, or epididymitis in men. However, please take the window period into account; if the risky contact occurred very recently, repeating the test may be useful. This means you likely have an active infection with the chlamydia bacteria. It is strongly recommended to seek medical assistance for appropriate antibiotic treatment.
