It occurs in high concentrations in the liver and heart muscle tissue, but is also present in smaller amounts in skeletal muscles and the kidneys.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"1\">When damage occurs to cells in these organs, AST leaks into the bloodstream. An elevation of the AST level is therefore often an indication of liver or tissue damage. This indicates a good balance where there are no signs of acute damage to the liver or muscle tissue.<\/li>\n<li data-path-to-node=\"1\"><strong>Caution:<\/strong><br \/>When the value is between 47.5 and 50 U\/L, the AST is still just within the normal range, but it is considered &#8220;caution.&#8221; This means the value is at the upper end of the healthy limit, which may be a reason to take a closer look at lifestyle factors or other liver values.<\/li>\n<li data-path-to-node=\"2\"><strong>High:<\/strong><br \/>If the value exceeds 50 U\/L (with a measuring range up to 5000 U\/L), it is considered abnormal and too high.
